Training:Learning with ImpactScanteam provides training for Norwegian government officials, NGO staff and others in aspects of development cooperation. Most courses address different phases of the activity cycle, with a focus on Results-based Management (RBM). Most courses are divided fairly evenly into three kinds of activities: presentations of key material; small group discussions based on case studies; and presentation and analyses of the groups' findings coupled with participants' own observations. Two-thirds of the time is therefore based on participants' own engagement and learning. While some courses are standardised, we also tailor training to address a particular organization's work and concerns. The examples used for discussion are then drawn from the organization's own activities, ensuring relevance and active interest. Taking advantage of such active learning techniques leads to efficient and effective learning and thus longer-term impact for course participants and their organizations. |
Teaching RBMScanteam has for many years taught Results-based Management (RBM) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Training Institute. The course lasts three days, broken down into four sessions each day. The course is based on the methodology manuals that Norway uses plus course materials developed by Scanteam. This includes a series of exercises used for the group discussions. These develop a constructed but realistic "case study" that tracks the full course contents, thus making the participants immediately apply the material presented. Participants rate each Training Institute course. The Scanteam RBM course is seen as relevant, pedagogically excellent with good interaction, materials and teachers, and it therefore consistently receives top grades. |
