Formative Mid-Term Review of the Rainforest Foundation Norway

Summary: The Report provides a review of RFN´s Amazon program, supported by MFA, to counter deforestation and provide a bulwark against climate change. Through annual budgets of 25-30 mill NOK per year, the program is closely linked to other public Norwegian funding and to the public Norwegian Amazon Fund. While problems of coordination with this is noted as a weakness, the RFN program stands out as a crucial complement to public initiatives. The elaboration of a comprehensive program for the Amazon mega-basin with sub-regions that include cross-border ethnic and ecosystems makes this program stand out as particularly relevant. However, the review raises serious questions regarding the sustainability thinking behind parts of the program and among some local partners.
